A Family Legacy of Chiropractic Care:
As you turn off Bellerose Drive into the driveway for Dr. Cooper’s Residence, you see what looks like a typical 60s or 70s bungalow. A large picture window on the left side is adorned with an “Open” sign and a picture of a spine, clues that this is not your typical bungalow.
As you walk in through the screen door into St Albert Chiropractic & Massage Wellness Centre, you see a list of “Coopers” written on the door. This is the family legacy of the Cooper family: over 20 of Dr. Dan Cooper’s relatives are in the chiropractic profession. What was once the living room of this bungalow has been adapted into a waiting room with reception area, but the homey touches still exist in the plush carpeting and warm welcome as you enter, “It’s not in your typical office atmosphere,” Dr. Dan explains. The chiropractic business begun by Dr. Dan’s father, Dr. Jon Cooper, has been successful in St Albert for over 25 years. Dr. Dan attributes the success of the business to the atmosphere, “People feel more at home when they come to see us.”
You’re in good hands with the Cooper family, one of the largest chiropractic families in Canada. Dan is the part of a legacy of chiropractors, a tradition that began with a strong belief in the effectiveness of chiropractic medicine.
This was something their family experienced firsthand when Dr. Dan’s great-grandfather, affectionately known as “Gump,” was paralyzed in a car accident over sixty years ago. “His prognosis was being paralyzed for the rest of his life,” Dr. Dan relates that within two years of chiropractic treatments that prognosis was dramatically changed as he started walking again.
Seeing the benefits that Gump received from the chiropractic treatments, and wanting to help others like him, his sons trained to be chiropractors. Dr. Dan describes it as a “trickle down effect” – ten of Gump’s grandchildren also went into chiropractic medicine, and Dr. Dan is now among the third generation in his family to go into the chiropractic profession and the second generation to go into the massage therapy profession.
What began as an accident many years ago has grown into one of the largest chiropractic & massage families in Canada, and a successful business here in St Albert.
